Distances: 18, 37, 57, 85, 105 miles
The Courage Ride is a charity cycling event dedicated to funding sarcoma cancer research at the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Inspired by the life and courage of Seth Bailey, this ride supports critical early-stage research that leads to life-saving breakthroughs.

Now in its 22nd year, the Courage Ride takes place on Saturday, August 8, starting and finishing at Big Grove Brewery & Taproom in Iowa City. Riders of all levels can choose from five scenic routes through the rolling countryside of eastern Iowa, including the Amish communities near Hills and Kalona, and extending to North English and Millersburg. A virtual ride option is also available.

Founded in 2005 by Seth’s parents, Jackie and Tom Bailey, in partnership with Bicyclists of Iowa City (BIC), the event honors Seth’s legacy and brings together a passionate community committed to making a difference.

More than 350 cyclists are expected to participate. Riders will enjoy well-supported routes with rest stops, great food, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. The event also features a silent auction with items from local businesses and artisans.

Supporting Sarcoma Cancer Research
100% of proceeds benefit the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Sarcoma Research Program. Over the past 21 years, Courage Ride has raised more than $1 million to fund seed grants—helping launch innovative studies that attract top researchers and drive new treatment advancements.

Sarcoma is rare and underfunded, receiving just 1–2% of all cancer research dollars. Yet each year in the U.S., nearly 14,000 people are diagnosed and more than 5,000 lose their lives to the disease. Courage Ride plays a vital role in changing that trajectory.

Registration
Registration opens in early April:
• $75 early registration (through July 31)
• $85 starting August 1
• $90 on-site (August 7–8)
• Youth (ages 13–17): $15
Registration includes breakfast, lunch, fully supported rest stops, SAG support, and live music.
