The Iowa City VA Health Care System (ICVAHCS) cares for more than 40,000 veterans in eastern Iowa and western Illinois and provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient health care services. Outpatient care is provided at seven community-based outpatient clinics located in Bettendorf, Dubuque, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids,and Ottumwa, Iowa; Galesburg, Quincy and Sterling Illinois and also at a satellite outpatient clinic in Coralville. The ICVHACS is a groundbreaking research center and affiliated teaching hospital that annually trains more that 1200 students in various disciplines ranging from medicine hand nursing to social work and respiratory therapy. The Iowa City VA Health Care System has affiliations and programs with the University of Iowa and many other community colleges throughout the state of Iowa. The medical center is one of four VA national kidney transplant referral sites.
