Celebrate 50 years of Holiday Tubas on the steps of the Old Capitol Museum, a cherished Iowa City tradition! Candlelight Concerts at Old Brick
Few venues in Iowa City capture the magic of the season quite like Old Brick, where history meets the glow of candlelight. It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play by Joe Landry
Step back in time with Riverside Theatre’s It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play, a heartwarming retelling of the beloved holiday classic. Winterland’s Annual Englert Holiday Show

Holiday Lights at the Lake
Each year, the West Overlook Campground transforms into a winter wonderland for this spectacular drive-thru light show. Running nightly from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve, this holiday event is a joy for all ages. On Wednesday evenings, park the car and stroll through the illuminated displays on foot for just $5 per person. Proceeds benefit The Bird House hospice home, so your visit will make a difference far beyond the season.
Neighborhood Light Displays
Local neighborhoods light up the season with music and flair:
- Spruce Ridge Christmas Lights: Over 50,000 dazzling lights and musical displays at 4477 Napoleon St. SE in Iowa City.

On December 6, join the Cookie Decorating with Paige class for an evening of designing treats like Santa’s sleigh, poinsettias, and festive ornaments. Enjoy sweet snacks, drinks, and the chance to create picture-perfect holiday cookies.
On December 7, get cozy at the Hand Knit Blanket Workshop, where local fiber artist Jessica Bass will guide you through creating a soft, chunky throw blanket—perfect for gifting or curling up by the fire. Then, on December 8, level up your holiday hosting skills with a Charcuterie Workshop. Learn to assemble stunning boards of meats, cheeses, fruits, and more. For over 50 years, the Holiday Thieves Market has been a favorite holiday tradition in Iowa City. This free fine art show takes place Dec. 7–8 at the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center, showcasing ceramics, paintings, jewelry, and more.
