Join us at Kirkwood Community College on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Iowa Hall Art Gallery for an open house reception celebrating the work of Iowa Artist Fellowship recipient Ali Hval. Light refreshments will be served.
Hval’s sculptures, featuring ceramics, fabric, and beauty-related materials, challenge traditional gender expectations and the critique of women’s bodies.
Drawing inspiration from fashion and femininity, Hval uses bold, oversized forms to empower femme aesthetics while exposing societal disparities. Her pieces blend humor, theatricality, and serious social commentary, offering a thought-provoking experience.
The exhibit runs Jan. 27–Feb. 21.
