Take a look behind the scenes at making of the ‘Death of a Brewer’ film in Iowa City

Crews began filming scenes inside the Old Capitol Museum and will continue working with actors in the Northside.

Doug Alberhasky, owner of John’s Grocery, is a seventh generation Iowa City native and is helping produce the film.

“Nobody knows about what happened [with prohibition and the gangsters] between the Civil War and World War I,” Alberhasky said, “Our movie tells the story of how we got there.”

The screenplay was written Mokotsi Rukundo, an Iowa City native and Los Angeles screenwriter and director for the film. It is based on the book “Beer Money, A Tale of the Iowa City Beer Mafia” written by S.C. Sherman.

Keli Price of Price Productions negotiated the deals on behalf of the production. Price is producing along with Alberhasky, who is executive producing alongside Ron Kirchhoff, Deadline reports.

You can purchase a copy of the book at John’s Grocery or Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City.

Death of a Brewer stars Jefferson White (YellowstoneCivil War), Crispin Glover (Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, Alice in WonderlandBack to the Future), Mena Suvari (American Beauty) and Tyler Posey (MTV’s Teen Wolf, Queen of the Ring) Deadline reports.

The filmmakers have put out a call for extras and a wide variety of props to borrow. Find out more information by visiting the movie website DeathOfABrewer.com
