Children’s Opera: Papagayo

The Cedar Rapids Opera is bringing its traveling children’s opera, Papagayo, to Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park on Sunday, October 11 for a 4 p.m. performance! Bring your family to enjoy the magic of opera in an all-ages show filled with vibrant puppetry and a cast of colorful creatures.
This is a free, one-hour, indoor performance inside Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park. Seating will be on banquet chairs and on the concrete floor.

Papagayo is a beloved story of a noisy parrot who works with the nocturnal rainforest animals to save the moon from being eaten by the ravenous Moon Dog. Along the way, the story illuminates an important lesson: every creature has value, and our differences often become our greatest strengths when we work together. With words & Music by Edward Barnes, based on “Papagayo: The Mischief Maker” by Gerald McDermott, the show features four singers utilizing puppetry to tell the story.
