African Festival of Arts and Culture

On September 26th, the Pedmall will transform into a bustling African marketplace filled with colorful textiles, artwork, and jewelry from countries across the African continent. The scent of incense will mingle with the smell of food from Nigeria, Congo, Togo, and Sudan, among others, for visitors to taste. The stage will feature a Fashion Show and Parade of Nations showcasing clothing and dance from cultures across the continent; a Congolese jazz band; a Sudanese oud player; children’s choirs; traditional dance from Sudan, Togo, and Benin; a Ghanaian-American composer; and dance music to keep people on their feet all day long.

Come shop, eat, dance, browse, greet old friends and meet new ones as we celebrate all that African immigrants bring to Iowa.
