episode 3: arts & culture

In the third episode of Blend | An Iowa Foodie Experience, Nate Kaeding heads into the heart of downtown Iowa City, a creative hub where art, music, and local craft come together at every turn.

The journey begins with Barry Phipps, a local photographer whose work captures the character and quiet moments of the people and places that define the area.

Nate then joins Keegan Colleta Huckfledt of The Englert and Tammie Walker of the University of Iowa School of Music for a conversation about the role the arts play in shaping downtown’s cultural life, from the beloved historic theater that has long brought audiences together for live performances to the music that enriches the community.

The episode also visits Public Space One, a community-driven contemporary art center that has become a home for local artists and creative expression in the area.

The journey wraps up at Crepes de Luxe, a downtown Iowa City favorite known for its handcrafted sweet and savory crepes and its welcoming café atmosphere.

Together, these stops reveal the artists, performers, and flavors that make downtown Iowa City a uniquely creative and inviting place to explore.
