Fishing Spots in our Curious Communities
Happy National Fishing Day! Whether you are looking to catch bass, walleye, catfish, or more, there are plenty of spots in our Curious Communities where you can cast your luck.
Lake Macbride
One of the area’s most popular fishing lakes just west of Solon offers a variety of fish populations perfect for beginners to seasoned anglers. At 940 acres, fishing can be done by boat going five mph or less and on shore. There are plenty of boat ramps and a fish cleaning station. Boat rentals are also available.
Coralville Reservoir
West of Lake Macbride and part of the Iowa River, this is another popular spot with several types of fish. It is the biggest lake on this list at 5,340 acres. Fishing here is most accessible from a boat but there are some shoreline options. There is no speed limit so calmer times to fish would be in the morning or evening.
Kent Park Lake
In between Tiffin and Oxford sits this 26 acre spot, perfect to bring your family. The lake was just recently renovated and restocked so the fish are not quite up to size limits however, there are still plenty to catch and release. Electronic boats are allowed and shore fishing is excellent.
Terry Trueblood Lake
Located on the south side of Iowa City, this is a great community fishing location with a lot of amenities. Panfish are very popular to catch in this 90 acre lake. Fishing from shore is very accessible, and electric boats are allowed by entering from a boat ramp. Kayak and paddle boat rentals are available.
Iowa River
Running over 300 miles starting in north central Iowa, this river connects our Curious Communities from North Liberty to Coralville and through Iowa City down to Hills, offering multiple locations to cast a line. Fishing is popular from shore near dammed areas. Several types of fish can be caught but what you are most likely to catch can vary on river location
Other Locations

Tiffin – Goldfinch Pond
Coralville – Ewalt Pond, North Ridge Pond
