Come be part of a community garden building project this summer. Find out how the practice of planting can inspire creative writing. The Writing Garden Project features six free planting and writing sessions, a celebratory reading, zine publication and garden unveiling in August. The project is supported by an Iowa City Public Arts Grant. We couldn’t be happier to start our second session with Chuy Reinteria, on June 1st at 1:00. Come plant and write. We will ground our bodies, and let our creative minds blossom. This is a free event and all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
Jesus “Chuy” Renteria is from West Liberty; Iowa’s first majority Hispanic town. Chuy’s writing explores the spaces between cultures. Their memoir, “We Heard it When We Were Young,” released in 2021 with The University of Iowa Press. Chuy is the Arts & Culture Editor for Little Village Magazine. He spends his free time with his wife Darcy and daughter Marisol Alana.
