Soseki is the only place in Iowa City that I go for sushi. I have never been disappointed with of my orders and the staff is always so friendly! The poke bowl with spicy tuna is my favorite item on their menu.

I don't know how I feel truly feel about this place. It used to be one of my go-to spots for a quick bite of sushi or rice bowls before/after class; now not so much. They very clearly changed ownership/management at some point; and with that a lot of changes seem to be made for the worst. The menu used to be a nice tight focus on sushi and japanese bar snacks; combined with the chill atmosphere, it was a perfect place to have lunch and sit down/ chill. Now, the menu has expanded and is huge and unfocused. Some of the dishes are good; others are not so much and feel like cop-outs. They also don't have a proper 'menu'; they just have like 7-8 laminated sheets they just plop in a big pile on your table when you sit down. The atmosphere is weird too. The restaurant layout is clearly designed for quick service; but when you walk in you get told to take a seat and get waited on by servers who clearly don't have much serving experience. Again, the old way was better. You'd walk in, order your food at the counter and pay for it; then sit down and enjoy your food when it came. It was simple and straightforward. A lot of the changes feel like changes for the sake of change.

Great Japanese especially the Curry pork rice bowel. The staff staff was fast and friendly
