My first time at FilmScene at the Chauncey... it is a really neat venue that is modern & bright, but still has a small movie house feel. I'm looking forward to attending more often.

I attended for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Everything exceeded my expectations going in. The theater was very comfortable and the staff were all very courteous and polite. It’s an art house theater which feels properly funded. A wonderful asset to the film community in Iowa. We are very fortunate to have this!

I. LOVE. THIS. THEATER. It is one of the things that makes Iowa City such a fantastic and amazing city. It has the craziest films and I get such a thrill looking at what pops up on their schedule. I have seen Clockwork Orange, Chungking Express, City of God, and all sorts of crazy and amazing classics here. The first film I ever saw was Titane and it blew my mind and told me this place was something unique and special to have a film like this proudly on the screen. Without the Film Scene Iowa City would to be as unique and stimulating place, it makes my brain expand and explore new ideas, cultures, and worlds through its films. Don't miss it, PLEASE! The theater itself is amazing and I love the intimate one on the Ped Mall just as much.

Wonderful little movie theater that mixes the charm of an art house with the amenities of a multiplex. The beautifully designed building with an undulating wooden interior encased in an open glass atrium is perfect for meeting and talking with people before or after a film. The concessions stand is well stocked in both the usual movie theater fair like popcorn and candy, but also well-curated alcoholic beverages and artisanal snacks. The staff are nice. There's an attached city parking structure and it shares the building with a bowling alley and hotel.
Update: Got a membership as a holiday gift. It's been lovely to get programming newsletters, early access to tickets, and small discounts on concessions. Even if we don't end up saving money on the year, I'm happy to support the local film community.

For the cinephiles in the area, it has auteur, avant garde, and mainstream choices which are certain to please. FilmScene, also, features a rare sense of shared passion for cinema, and excellent customer service that can only be explained by a mission: to facilitate enjoyment!
