April 29 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
On April 29, 2022, a new tree will be planted on the University of Iowa’s Pentacrest—a sapling propagated from the immense horse chestnut tree that grew in the courtyard behind the annex where Anne Frank and her family hid for 761 days during World War II. This living symbol of Anne’s spirit and humanitarian message is the 13th Anne Frank Sapling to be planted in the United States.
Talks, spoken-word performances, and live music will precede the planting. Attendees should gather on the lawn outside of Macbride Hall. After the talks and performances, the crowd will move to the northeast corner of the Pentacrest for the official tree planting. Register for this free event here.
The event includes a spoken word performance by visiting guest artists Amal Kassir. Her visit is sponsored by the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature and the Iowa City Book Festival.
