—–Biography—–
Last Night at the Mill is a concert film featuring singer-songwriter Greg Brown, originally recorded in 2003 at the legendary MILL Restaurant in Iowa City. Joining Greg are fantastic players and long time friends Bo Ramsey, guitar; Rick Cicalo, bass; Steven Hayes drums; and Dave Zollo keyboards. This performance captured an energized celebration for Kieth Dempster, then retiring as founder and original owner of the legendary MILL for more than 40 years. Kieth’s ongoing support and activity contributed much to the artistic and social development of the many that passed through his joint. This performance showcases the deep musical connections of the legendary venue. For all those years, the MILL was a place for musicians, artists, and writers to call home, and to “…stop by for a Jack, a joke, and a bite….”
Energized renditions of Greg’s original songs carry the program, with dynamic covers also thrown in and adapted to the special circumstances of the evening. Special guest poet Dean Williams rocks the house with his recitation of “Ode to the MILL”, written for the special occasion & performed with the
band.
An updated and remastered version of the film with additional materials is scheduled to premiere at The Englert.
