Summer of the Arts is taking the Free Movie Series “on the road” to a neighborhood near you this year! Thanks to a partnership with Iowa City Parks and Recreation, half of the movies will include special activities and games prior to the movie. For the other five movies, you can expect musical entertainment or activities before the movies, including a special appearance by local blues legend Kevin Burt prior to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings on August 20th at ST Morrison Park in Coralville.
The series kicks off on May 21st in conjunction with the City of Iowa City and Old Capitol Quilters Guild’s event “Beauties Among the Beasts”. This special event will take place in the Iowa City Public Works Facility and Summer of the Arts will show Field of Dreams in the adjacent Napoleon Park starting at sundown.
The other movies will be visiting a variety of parks and new locations, including the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Enjoy ten family-friendly features throughout the Iowa City area this summer.
Pack up your lawn chairs and coziest blankets and spend your summer nights with us, and some of Hollywood’s best. These delightful viewings beneath the stars are all free of charge. Make sure to note that films begin after sundown, so the start times vary throughout the summer. June/early July movies will typically start around 9 PM. In case of inclement weather, we will do our best to reschedule the movie. If you’d like to find out more about our Free Movie Series, information is available at www.summeroftheARTS.org.
