Eat in the Iowa City Area Like MasterChef Winner Grant Gillon
It’s no secret the Iowa City area has a great food scene. It’s so good that sometimes it can be super hard to figure out where to eat. MasterChef Season 13 Champion Grant Gillon can help you out. Grant is an Iowan and a University of Iowa Alum, so he knows the ins and outs of the Iowa City area food scene.
Here are Grant Gillon’s top three favorite places to eat (including his orders!) in the Iowa City area, his honorable mentions, and the spot Grant is dying to try.
1. Micky’s Irish Pub
Order: Micky’s Famous Conglomeration – roasted ham and turkey, swiss and cheddar cheese on grilled sourdough and served with a side of ranch dressing.
“Micky’s holds a lot of nostalgia for my family as my parents would go on dates here when they attended UI in the 80s.”
2. Pullman Bar & Diner
Order: Breakfast Tacos – Flour tortilla, soft scrambled eggs, mojo pork, salsa, cilantro, onion. cheddar frico, chipotle aioli.
“That crispy cheese on the inside of the tortilla is 100 plus I love the open kitchen.”
3. Joseph’s Steakhouse
Order: Anything
“I generally don’t go out of my way to go to steakhouses because I can cook a pretty dang good steak with all the fixing. I have always been super impressed with the attention to detail and service at Joseph’s which makes the experience top notch.”
