SUMMARY:Spooky Night @ the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Happy Spooky Szn\, Hawkeyes! \nThe Pentacrest Museums are excited to put on Spooky Night @ The Museum\, open for all of our campus and community to enjoy. We’ll keep the Old Capitol Museum open after hours for guests to find a treat and roam the galleries. Stumble upon docents with some slightly spooky history to share with you in our galleries like the original University President’s Office\, the original UI Library\, and the original Iowa House Chamber where our Iowa Constitution was first drafted and signed (if only walls [and ghosts] could talk…). On your way in (or out) be sure to say “hi” to the Ghostbusters of Iowa who will be ready to take a photo with you\, their special vehicle\, and of course\, Old Cap as the backdrop. \nDon’t miss out on the fun! Bring a friend\, bring a date\, bring your family\, wear a costume if you’d like!

He has also led groups of UI students to experience the making of the Brazilian Carnival Parades and the African-Brazilian diaspora in dance\, music\, and street performances in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo\, Brazil. \nWhat is Samba de Gafieira?\nSamba de Gafieira is an elegant and joyful partner dance\, and an expressive Brazilian social dance that blends Afro-Brazilian rhythms with European ballroom traditions. Born in Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century\, it’s more than a collection of dance steps; Samba de Gafieira practice encompasses essential elements such as tempo\, rhythm\, coordination\, and weight-shifting \nYou don’t need a partner to join us\, and dancers regularly rotate partners during class. SUMMARY:Use Your VOICE Day
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Election Day with Use Your VOICE Day at The Iowa Children’s Museum! This special event will introduce children to the many ways they can engage in their community and make their voices heard. From voting in a mock election to hands-on activities in our Art Studio\, kids will be introduced to important civic values related to Voting\, Opportunity\, Involvement\, Community\, and Engagement. \nThroughout the day\, children can cast their votes for our playful puppet candidates—Pete and George—or write in their own choice\, all while learning about the democratic process in a fun\, interactive way. Be sure to grab your voter button after casting your ballot and keep an eye out for our candidates as they campaign for votes! \nThe results of this year’s election will determine what dress-up day we will hold during winter break. Help your child discover the many ways they can use their VOICE to shape their world! \nPlease note that this is a mock election for educational purposes\, and The Iowa Children’s Museum is not a registered polling place. \nAll activities are included with museum admission (free for members).
