SUMMARY:Full Moon Night Hike
DESCRIPTION:Lace up your snow boots to join a small group of adventurers for a guided night hike. The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon\, but you’ll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, just in case of cloud cover. Night hikers will explore some of our favorite spots on the property. Encounters with wildlife are sure to occur! Hikers should dress for the weather and wear snow boots. Children are welcome\, including babies in carriers. (Strollers not recommended). Friendly dogs on leashes are also welcome. \nFee: $5 Members $10 Nonmembers. \nPre-registration is required as spots are limited. These hikes do fill and walk-ins can not be accepted if the program has reached capacity.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Music - Kris Karr
DESCRIPTION:My solo performance involves music centered around the 1970s as well as originals. My performances came out of hosting an acoustic jam weekly for 4 years. I’ve been told that my solo performance sounds like an entire band. I think the reason people say that is because I was a drummer for a very long time before playing guitar\, so\, I am very rhythmic in my performance. I try to get people dancing when possible. I also like audience participation and humor. I encourage people to sing along and to be a part of the show. My hope is to make them feel as though they are at a big concert. Keeping a festive mood. My performances are 2-3 hours in length with typically no break. I work hard to keep the audience engaged so that they want to stay and have a fun time. I am a 2022 Iowa Rock & Roll Association Hall of Fame Inductee.

SUMMARY:Art & Write Night
DESCRIPTION:Join the long\, rich\, historical tradition of artists creating in our spaces. \nProfessional\, aspiring\, and amateur artists alike\, make our museum your muse. The return of this popular program series welcomes guests into the Museum of Natural History’s magical gallery spaces after-hours to work on sketching or writing projects with other campus and community artists. \nTell a friend\, grab a notebook\, and join us on the first Friday of each month. We’ll provide a new inspo prompt for each session and will sometimes move about the Museum but we’ll always start in Bird Hall on the third Floor of Macbride Hall. Join anytime between 6-8 p.m. and feel free to participate in a themed creation challenge or work on your own project with our exhibits as inspiration. We’ll save the last 15-30 minutes of each session to share what we’ve been working on\, connecting with others (optional\, of course!). \nPlease note\, the Museum is typically closed during this time\, meaning the main entrance to Iowa Hall (atop the large staircase outside on the east side of Macbride Hall) will be closed and locked. All other building doors will be open\, offering access to the Ground Floor of Macbride Hall\, restrooms\, stairs and elevator to the third floor galleries where this program takes place. Bird Hall is located on the third floor of Macbride Hall and can be reached by stairs or by taking the elevator to the third floor of the building. \nSpecial thanks to Blick Art Materials for supplying extra art materials. The fun starts at 10 am and goes until we get tired of flying\, run out of food (not likely)\, or getbored watching football.We are asking 4 or 5 people to bring chili or some other soup.
