SUMMARY:Club 76 Sunday Concert Series: featuring The Feralings
DESCRIPTION:Welcome first timers The Feralings. This band may be new to Club 76 but is packed with great seasoned musicians. The core members of the Iowa-based Americana\, The Feralings are Patrick Bloom (guitar/vocals)\, Benj Upchurch (mandolin/vocals)\, and Nicole Upchurch (banjo/vocals)\, with Ryan Bernemann (upright bass/vocals).\nRalph Waldo Emerson. Diesel. Morning glories. AM radio. These all influence Iowa acoustic Americana\, The Feralings\, as do the gently sloping landscapes of the Iowa countryside and the sound of tornado sirens squealing and the rumble of trucks on I-80. Their songwriting reflects parenthood\, friendship\, imperfection\, magic\, and a big love for storytelling\, as well as the folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, alt country\, Americana\, gospel\, and roots that form each member’s musical DNA.

SUMMARY:Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
DESCRIPTION:Born Troy Andrews\, Trombone Shorty got his start (and nickname) earlier than most: at four\, he made his first appearance at Jazz Fest performing with Bo Diddley; at six\, he was leading his own brass band; and by his teenage years\, he was hired by Lenny Kravitz to join the band he assembled for his Electric Church World Tour. Shorty’s proven he’s more than just a horn player\, though. Catch a gig\, open the pages of the New York Times or Vanity Fair\, flip on any late-night or morning TV show and you’ll see an undeniable star with utterly magnetic charisma\, a natural born showman who can command an audience with the best of them. \nSince 2010\, he’s released five chart topping studio albums (his most recent being 2022’s Lifted); toured with everyone from Jeff Beck to the Red Hot Chili Peppers; collaborated across genres with Pharrell\, Bruno Mars\, Mark Ronson\, Foo Fighters\, ZHU\, Zac Brown\, Normani\, Ringo Starr\, and countless more; played Coachella\, Bonnaroo\, Lollapalooza\, Newport Folk\, Newport Jazz\, and nearly every other major festival; performed four times at the GRAMMY Awards\, six times at the White House\, on dozens of TV shows\, and at the star-studded Sesame Street Gala\, where he was honored with his own Muppet; launched the Trombone Shorty Foundation to support youth music education; and received the prestigious Caldecott Honor for his first children’s book. \nMeanwhile in New Orleans\, Shorty now leads his own Mardi Gras parade atop a giant float crafted in his likeness\, hosts the annual Treme Threauxdown shows that have drawn guests including Usher\, Nick Jonas\, Dierks Bentley\, Andra Day\, and Leon Bridges to sit in with his band\, and has taken over the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s hallowed final set\, which has seen him closing out the internationally renowned gathering after performances by the likes of Neil Young\, the Black Keys\, and Kings of Leon. \nIn addition to touring across the globe nearly year-round\, Trombone Shorty has started a very special tradition: a cultural exchange trip to Cuba with his Trombone Shorty Foundation. The fourth trip of his kind will take place in January of 2025\, and includes an ever-expanding group of special guests artists who join Shorty and his Foundation to host workshops and play concerts in Cuba over a 5-day period\, as well as nearly 100 students. These exchange programs have previously been featured on NPR and CBS Mornings. \nLifted\, Trombone Shorty’s second release for Blue Note Records and 5th solo LP\, was released in 2022. Recorded at Shorty’s own Buckjump Studio with producer Chris Seefried (Fitz and the Tantrums\, Andra Day)\, the album finds the GRAMMY-nominated NOLA icon and his bandmates tapping into the raw power and exhilarating grooves of their legendary live show\, channeling it all into a series of tight\, explosive performances that blur the lines between funk\, soul\, R&B\, and psychedelic rock. The writing is bold and self-assured\, standing up to hard times and loss with grit and determination\, and the playing is muscular to match\, mixing pop gleam with hip-hop swagger and second line abandon. Wild as all that may sound\, Lifted is still the work of a master craftsman\, and the album’s nimble arrangements and judicious use of special guests—from Gary Clark Jr. and Lauren Daigle to the rhythm section from Shorty’s high school marching band—ultimately yields a collection that’s as refined as it is rapturous\, one that balances technical virtuosity and emotional release in equal measure as it celebrates music’s primal power to bring us all together. \nSince the release of Lifted\, Shorty and his band have made appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, TODAY and Good Morning America\, and CBS Mornings. Shorty has also recently performed at the MusiCares pre-GRAMMY Awards gala\, the Roots Picnic with Lil Wayne\, on the instantly legendary NPR Tiny Desk featuring Juvenile\, and at the White House’s 2024 Juneteenth concert. His recent 2024 summer tour featured special guest Big Boi and included a stop at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConcert\nBuy Tickets \n\nDate\nSunday\, Jun 21\, 2026 \n\n\nTime\nDoors Open 6:30 PM\nEvent Starts 7:30 PM \n\n\nVenue\nThe Englert Theatre\n\n\nPrice\n$25.00 – $59.50 \n\n\n\n\nBox Office Hours\nTue: 10am – 6pm\nWed-Fri: 10am – 4pm \n(319) 688-2653\ninfo@englert.org\nBuy Tickets

When four young lovers flee the city to follow their hearts\, they wander into a place where anything can happen\, and usually does. A mischievous fairy named Puck\, armed with a magic flower\, sends the lovers chasing each other in all the wrong directions\, and the queen of the fairies falls head over heels for a buffoonish “ass.” When dawn breaks\, love wins\, and all that’s left to do is celebrate with three weddings and a play-within-a-play so charmingly terrible it just might steal the show.

SUMMARY:Rooftop Music & Reading Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the deck of MarketHouse for an evening of music\, poetry\, and prose. The Rooftoop Music & Reading Series brings together some of Iowa’s most exciting artists for a one-of-a-kind collaborative program. Bring a buddy\, date\, or come alone. Stay for the gorgeous views\, drinks and good company \nBecca Klaver is a writer\, teacher\, editor\, scholar\, and collaboration conjurer. She is the author of the poetry collections LA Liminal (Kore Press\, 2010)\, Empire Wasted (Bloof Books\, 2016)\, and Ready for the World (Black Lawrence Press\, 2020)\, as well as several chapbooks. Her latest publications are Midwinter Constellation (Black Lawrence\, 2022)\, a collaborative homage to Bernadette Mayer’s Midwinter Day\, and Greetings from Bowling Green (The Magnificent Field\, 2022)\, a chapbook of postcard poems. Her scholarly writing appears in Humanities\, College Literature\, Jacket2\, and elsewhere. As an editor\, she co-founded Switchback Books\, co-edited the anthology Electric Gurlesque (Saturnalia Books)\, and created group projects such as Women Poets Wearing Sweatpants. Becca has taught poetry in many settings across the U.S.\, from elementary schools to MFA programs to community workshops. She lives in Iowa City\, where she used to work for the Iowa Summer Writing Festival and continues to organize All Fours Group Chat\, a feminist conversation meetup. \nAnnelyse Gelman Annelyse Gelman’s most recent book\, Vexations (University of Chicago Press\, 2023)\, won the 2022 James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets and was longlisted for the National Book Award. Gelman is also the author of the poetry collection Everyone I Love Is a Stranger to Someone (Write Bloody\, 2014)\, and the experimental pop EP About Repulsion (Fonograf Editions\, 2019)\, as well as the artist’s book POOL (Neck Press\, 2020). Her work has appeared in The New Yorker\, Harper’s Magazine\, BOMB Magazine\, the PEN Poetry Series\, The Iowa Review\, American Poetry Review\, and elsewhere. \nGelman’s language-based\, trans-disciplinary projects are frequently ekphrastic and collaborative\, using consumer-grade technologies and available materials to explore intimacy\, vulnerability\, and interdependence. Beyond publishing\, her expanded poetics practice has resulted in a duet with Tavares Strachan’s neon sculpture at the Blanton Museum of Art\, a reading with Deborah Butterfield’s sculptures at the Manetti Shrem Museum\, and a performance for José Parlá’s Amistad America mural (Austin\, TX)\, and many other projects. She has been the recipient of fellowships and residencies from the Deutsch-Amerikanische Fulbright-Kommission\, New Zealand Pacific Studio\, Fondation Jan Michalski\, Fondation Thalie\, and elsewhere (a full CV is available upon request). She holds an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers. \nCate Dicharry received her MFA in Creative Writing from University of California\, Riverside and later served as the IWP’s Youth Programs Coordinator. She became director of the Writing and Humanities Program at the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine in 2019\, serving also as managing editor of The Examined Life Journal and director of The Examined Life Conference. She now returns to the IWP as Director. She is the author of the novel The Fine Art of Fucking Up\, among other publications. \nAudra Kerr Brown On Audra’s new collection hush hush hush: “With an uncanny gift for creating characters we feel we have always known\, Audra Kerr Brown treats us to stories about grief and love that lay bare for us real worlds of suffering and joy. The stories in hush hush hush succeed precisely where her characters’ tenuous connections to the world fail. Inside these stunning little tales are pawned prosthetic legs\, a frozen ghost-child mascot haunting a home for pregnant teenagers\, a new family home where chairs stack themselves and walls bleed\, and family terrorists of every variety. Sad\, haunting\, and often darkly funny\, I couldn’t stop reading these disarmingly beautiful stories of how easy it is to lose what we love the most. They shimmer and glow with quirky brilliance.” \n—Meg Pokrass\, author of Spinning to Mars and Founding Editor of Best Microfiction
