SUMMARY:Grease | Iowa City Community Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed\, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys’ and their gum-snapping\, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers\, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’\,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night” and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie\,” recalling the music of Buddy Holly\, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals\, along with innumerable school and community productions\, place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals. \nPerformances at the Festival Stage in City Park\nCity Park Roads\, Iowa City\, IA 52245 \nPerformances will be July 18-19 and 25-26 at 7:00pm\, July 20 and 27 at 6:00pm \nClick on the button below or scan the QR code for tickets\nTicket Prices for Grease are as follows. \n\n$22 + Fees – Adults\n$19 + Fees – Students and Seniors\n$14 + Fees – Children\n\nIf you have a physical flex pass\, please call our box office at (319) 338-0443 or email us at office@iowacitycommunitytheatre.com to reserve your tickets. \n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\nBuy a Flex Pass

These all influence Iowa acoustic roots quartet The Feralings\, as do the gently sloping landscapes of the Iowa countryside and the sound of tornado sirens squealing and the rumble of trucks on I-80. Their songwriting reflects friendship\, imperfection\, magic\, and a big love for storytelling\, as well as the folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, alt-country\, Americana\, gospel\, and roots that form each member’s musical DNA. \nTheir debut EP\, titled simply “The Feralings”\, was recorded over the course of several years\, as the band navigated parenthood\, life changes\, and personal struggles\, and it showcases the power and intimacy of the band’s enthralling live performances. The band is currently in the process of recording their long awaited follow-up album.

SUMMARY:Free Gen Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Free Gen Writing Workshop! \nAt Porchlight 1019 E. Washington St. \nSunday\, July 20th\, 5:30pm- 7pm/ FREE. \nCo-hosted by PorchLight Literary and Iowa City Poetry\, the Free Generative Writing Workshop provides a space for career writers\, curious beginners\, writers of all income levels and stages of life. Our goal is to make it easy to meet and learn from some of the most talented writer/teachers living in or passing through Iowa City. Every month a new writer leads a generative workshop\, presenting a prompt inspired by their own preoccupations\, passions\, or interests. Prompts have run the gamut of writing from Tarot cards\, to finding inspiration in the villanelle; from ekphrasis to open letters of resistance to government officials. It has been an adventure\, and we are continually inspired by the creative concentration of participants\, and the powerful beginnings the workshop generates. \nThis month’s leader: Ryan Collins. Ryan Collins is the author of A New American Field Guide & Song Book and several chapbooks. Recently he was a finalist in the Omnidawn Poetry Chapbook Contest\, the DIAGRAM/New Michigan Press Chapbook Contest\, the Sixth Finch Chapbook Contest\, and the Conduit/Minds on Fire Open Book Prize. His work has appeared in Apartment\, The Mixtape Review\, Ninth Letter\, Oroboro\, Past Ten\, Sink Review\, swamp pink\, and many other places. He is the Executive Director of the Midwest Writing Center\, and hosts the SPECTRA Reading Series in Rock Island\, IL\, where he lives.
