DESCRIPTION:Free Gen Writing Workshop\nMay 18\, 2025\, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM\nAt Porchlight:\nIowa City\, 1019 E Washington St\, Iowa City\, IA 52240 \nCo-sponsored by PorchLight and Iowa City Poetry\, the Free Generative Writing Workshops provide a space for career writers\, curious beginners\, writers of all income levels and stages of life. Our goal is to make it easy to meet and learn from some of the most talented writer/teachers living in or passing through Iowa City. Every month a new writer leads a generative workshop\, presenting a prompt inspired by their own preoccupations\, passions\, or interests. It has been an adventure\, and we are continually inspired by the creative concentration of participants\, and the powerful beginnings the workshop generates. \nDevanshi Khetarpal is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop\, where she was the Truman Capote and Sonny Mehta Fellow in fiction. She is currently an MFA Candidate in Literary Translation at the University of Iowa\, and an Associate Poetry Editor for The Bombay Literary Magazine. Devanshi holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Comparative Literature from New York University. She is a recipient of the James Michener-Copernicus Society Award from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and an Honorable Mention for the 2024 Prufer Poetry Prize\, and her work was longlisted for the 2022 Toto Award for Creative Writing in English. She has received support from the Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference\, Yale Writers’ Workshop\, Juniper Writing Institute at UMass Amherst\, NYU and the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Her writing has been published or is forthcoming in The Threepenny Review\, Indiana Review\, Pleiades\, The Masters Review\, Public Books\, and Poetry at Sangam\, among others. DESCRIPTION:The Iowa City Farmers Market is managed by the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department. It is an open-air market held in the Chauncey Swan parking ramp\, Chauncey Swan Park\, and on E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City. The market runs from May through October. We strive to serve all populations by providing access to fresh\, locally produced products. \n\n\n\nWhat to Know before You Visit\nPets – Animals are NOT allowed inside the first level of the parking ramp during the market. But feel free to bring your furry friends to the market to enjoy the park and Washington Street! \nPayment – A variety of payment options are available including cash\, credit/debit cards\, EBT/SNAP (Electronic Benefit Transfer/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) cards\, and DUFB (Double Up Food Bucks.) Tokens are available for purchase at the Information Table located at the north entrance of the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp during the market\, see staff for more details. \nParking – During the Farmers Market hours (7:30 a.m. to noon)\, free parking is available in the upper levels of the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp\, as well as the lot behind the Robert A. She has dedicated her time to exploring the transformative power of art. Drawing inspiration from dream studies and rest ministries\, Kelly’s approach merges the tactile qualities of fibers with the visual language of painting\, resulting in comforting and evocative pieces. Kelly has 12 years of experience teaching all ages\, and is excited to bring her knowledge and techniques to others. \nKelsey Voy is a visual artist and papermaker. She draws with thread\, prints with memory\, and appreciates paper and cloth for their intricacies in carrying information. She received her MFA in Book Arts from the University of Iowa and a degree in Textile Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
