SUMMARY:Ripcord
DESCRIPTION:Ripcord \nDirected by Trent Yoder \nRipcord by David Lindsay-Abaire is a comedy that unfolds in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. The play centers on the contentious relationship between two elderly roommates\, the fiercely private and curmudgeonly Abby Binder\, and the relentlessly cheerful newcomer Marilyn Dunne. \nFueled by Abby’s desire for solitude and Marilyn’s wish for the coveted bed by the window\, the two women engage in a seemingly harmless bet: if Abby can make Marilyn angry\, Marilyn will move out. Conversely\, if Marilyn can scare the seemingly unflappable Abby\, she gets the window bed. \nThis simple wager escalates into an outrageous and increasingly dangerous series of pranks and one-upmanship. Their escalating antics involve the facility’s aide\, Scotty\, and even their respective families\, revealing deeper truths and hidden vulnerabilities beneath their hardened exteriors. As their battle intensifies\, the play explores themes of aging\, the fear of vulnerability\, the search for happiness in later life\, and the unexpected connections that can form even in the most unlikely circumstances. The humor is sharp and often physical\, but the play also delves into poignant moments as the women confront their pasts and present realities. \nSensitive Material: Although Ripcord is a comedy\, there is some material that could be disturbing to some\, involving a (fake) suicide\, drug use\, and a gun. \nPerformances at The James Theater\n213 N Gilbert St\, Iowa City\, IA 52245 \nPerformances will be February 13-14 and 20-21 at 7:30pm\, February 15 and 22 at 2:00pm \nClick on the button below or scan the QR code for tickets\nTicket Prices for Ripcord are as follows. \n\n$20 + Fees – Adults\n$17 + Fees – Students and Seniors\n$12 + Fees – Children\n\nIf you have a physical flex pass\, please call our box office at (319) 338-0443 or email us at office@iowacitycommunitytheatre.com to reserve your ticket \n\nBuy Tickets\nBuy a Flex Pass

SUMMARY:Free Live Music | Dage Lee
DESCRIPTION:Dage Lee is a premier acoustic singer-songwriter based in Central Nebraska\, boasting an impressive portfolio of over 2\,000 performances across the last eight years. While his touring footprint spans from Minnesota to California\, he primarily focuses on the heart of the country\, performing regularly throughout Nebraska\, Iowa\, Kansas\, Colorado\, and Wyoming. \nHis sound is a masterful blend of influences\, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of legendary artists including 3 Doors Down\, Matchbox 20\, Kenny Wayne Shepherd\, and Shinedown\, as well as the timeless grit of Metallica\, Tom Petty\, and Johnny Cash. SUMMARY:One Book Two Book Festival
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of children’s literature in the city of literature\nFebruary 21-22\, 2026\n\nOur community is very supportive of young people. We know who scores the winning touchdown for City High. We celebrate students who make all-state in music for Northwest Junior High. We cheer the top debaters at Regina. But do we know the best young writers in our community? \nWe should. As a UNESCO City of Literature\, we rightly laud the published and soon-to-be published authors among us\, but we tend to overlook the most abundant pool of talent in our area: our K-12 schools. \nRecognizing and celebrating this talent is a big reason behind the City of Literature organization’s annual One Book Two Book Children’s Literature Festival. Like traditional festivals\, it offers the chance for attendees — in this case\, children and their families — to hear from published authors about their work. But more important is its ultimate goal: to champion writing by children. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule of Events\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrains!\n\nFebruary 21 @ 10:00 am \nMERGE \n136 S Dubuque St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nBook Fair at One Book Two Book\n\nFebruary 21 @ 10:00 am \nFilmScene at The Chauncey \n404 E College St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nDrop-in Illustration Workshop with Matt Laux\n\nFebruary 21 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \nMERGE \n136 S Dubuque St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nSing-Along\n\nFebruary 21 @ 11:00 am \nFilmScene at The Chauncey \n404 E College St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nLocal Children’s Book Author Fair\n\nFebruary 21 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm \nMERGE \n136 S Dubuque St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nBook Character Meet & Greet\n\nFebruary 21 @ 12:00 pm \nFilmScene at The Chauncey \n404 E College St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nStorytime\n\nFebruary 21 @ 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm \nFilmScene at The Chauncey \n404 E College St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nBook Character Meet & Greet\n\nFebruary 21 @ 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm \nFilmScene at The Chauncey \n404 E College St\nIowa City\, IA 52240 United States + Google Map\n\n\n\nWrite Out Loud Student Award Ceremony\n\nFebruary 22 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm \nMacbride Auditorium \n17 N.
