Holiday Lights at the Lake is honored to become a beloved tradition in the greater Iowa City area\, creating and fostering long lasting memories for all. Viewers can enjoy the curated professional light displays that have been sponsored by local businesses. Each year\, new displays and enhancements\nare added. Visitors should look forward to seeing the new “Farming in Iowa” section and as always\, every person will receive a complimentary candy cane\, and treats for dogs too!\nMost nights offer a drive-through experience\, but Wednesday evenings are closed to vehicles to offer a walking experience for guests who prefer to stroll through the event at their own pace. Added this year is a walk-through night to start the season early on November 27th\, Thanksgiving Eve. Cherished “Meet Your Local Heroes” night will be on December 4th\, and “Glow in the Park” night will be on December 18th! Wednesday\, December 25th (Christmas) will be a drive-through due to the holiday\, but all other Wednesdays will be a walk-through night as long as winter temperatures\nallow. \nAdmission for vehicles starts at $10 for regularly sized family vehicles (car\, SUV\, mini- van)\, and is higher for larger vehicles (limos\, buses\, etc). On Walk-through Wednesdays\, the cost is $5 per person\, with children 2 and under entering for free. \nHours are Sunday through Thursday 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5:00 –9:00 p.m. Santa & Mrs. Claus are expected to be at the event every Wednesday and Sunday evening before Christmas! The return of this popular program series welcomes guests into the Museum of Natural History’s magical gallery spaces after hours to work on sketching or writing projects with other campus and community artists. \nTell a friend\, grab a notebook\, and join us on the first Friday of each month. We’ll provide a new inspo prompt for each session and will sometimes move about the Museum but we’ll always start in the Hageboeck Hall of Birds (Bird Hall) on the third floor of Macbride Hall. Join anytime between 6-8 p.m. and feel free to participate in a themed creation challenge or work on your own project with our exhibits as inspiration. We’ll save the last 15-30 minutes of each session to share what we’ve been working on\, connecting with others (optional\, of course!). \nPlease note\, the Museum is typically closed during this time\, meaning the main entrance to Iowa Hall (atop the large staircase outside on the east side of Macbride Hall) will be closed and locked. All other building doors will be open\, offering access to the Ground Floor of Macbride Hall. Bird Hall is located on the third floor of Macbride Hall and can be reached by stairs or by taking the elevator to the third floor and crossing the auditorium to the north side of the building.

DESCRIPTION:Come and learn traditional dances with live music. No partner needed. Contra dancing is a series of repeated patterns with its roots in folk dancing going back to Jane Austen’s time and beyond; it is also related to Irish ceili dancing and American square dancing. Our dances are great for beginners\, as there is no footwork to learn. The caller goes through each dance with us before the music begins\, then “calls” the dance with the music\, telling us what to do next. No problem if you get mixed up — other dancers can help you. Bring a friend or come alone; there are always plenty of people to dance with! Children are welcome with parental supervision. The easiest dances are at the beginning of the evening. Casual dress and snug footwear are encouraged. Free\, but donations welcome. First Saturday of the month\, but check the calendar for location. It’s great fun!
