We are celebrating both Mrs. Fortmann-Doser’s retirement and Giving Tuesday with an event on December 2 at Big Grove in Iowa City from 4-7 pm. \nMrs. Fortmann-Doser has been working in support of victim-survivor services for 39 years\, and 32 of those years have been at DVIP/RVAP. Her lasting impact on victim-survivors deserves recognition for her countless contributions and steadfast commitment to supporting those impacted by domestic and sexual violence. \nWe invite our community to show up and celebrate all of her years of service. Big Grove Iowa City will provide some of her favorite foods\, refreshments\, and a signature drink. The first 32 individuals to register will get a complimentary cocktail. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by local musicians\, The MIC. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:Join co-curators Giselle Simón\, Elizabeth Yale\, and Damien Ihrig for a special guided tour of the current University of Iowa Libraries Main Library Gallery exhibition\, Paper Engineering in Art\, Science\, and Education. All are welcome to attend this free event. \nAbout the exhibit:\nPaper Engineering in Art\, Science\, and Education showcases the fascinating world of movable books and paper technologies. The exhibition invites visitors to enjoy seeing flap books\, pop-ups\, tunnel books\, volvelles\, and books that use paper to make sounds while learning about their historical and contemporary significance. \nPaper has long held a crucial role in communicating information to artists\, scientists\, and students. Medical flap books from the 16th to the 19th centuries provided an affordable way for physicians to gain hands-on knowledge about the body. Children’s books from the 18th century onwards used movable elements to instruct and entertain\, acting as precursors to interactive media. Artist’s books from the last century demonstrate how paper technologies can engage viewers in new and exciting ways. Through these and other rare materials from University of Iowa Libraries collections\, this exhibition celebrates the creativity\, design\, and ingenuity of paper engineering. \nIndividuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. DESCRIPTION:Dec 04\, 2025\, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM\nPorchLight: 1019 E Washington St\, Iowa City \nDecember’s Lights On Salon features multi-modal artists and writers Jordan Sellergen and Mauricio Ruiz in conversation about writing to engage community. Free & open to the public. Light refreshments provided. \nJordan Sellergren is the owner and publisher of Little Village after serving as art director for ten years. Outside of the office\, she is a mother\, cyclist\, visual artist\, songwriter and musician. Her most recent album\, Banner Year\, was funded by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council and released in April 2025. \nMauricio Ruiz studied piano at the Music Conservatory in Mexico City\, holds a B.S. in Computer Science Engineering from ITESM\, an MBA from BI Handelhøyskole Oslo\, and an MFA in Spanish Creative Writing from the University of Iowa. He’s received a UI GEC grant to create an artists’ residency to raise awareness of consumerism and engage with the Iowa City Landfill\, and is collaborating with Jennifer New on a podcast on environmental grief. He’s published two short story collections\, writes about arts and culture for Little Village Magazine\, and is a grad student at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He has lived in Brussels\, Oslo and Mexico City.

A snowstorm cuts the house off from the outside world just as a notorious murderer is revealed to be on the loose\, and each guest becomes a suspect. \n**There will be a talkback with the performers and director hosted by Miriam Gilbert following the Sunday\, 11/30 matinee performance. This event is free and open to the public; you do not need to attend that day’s performance to attend the talkback.
