Geoffrey D’Souza was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, and received a BS in political science from the University of Iowa in 2001. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine from 2002 until 2005, teaching English in the rural mountain village of Dubove for two years and the town of Kalush for another year. D’Souza received a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Michigan with a focus on education policy in 2008. Longing for a return to international life, he went back to Ukraine in 2011 where he spent almost 7 years in the western city of Lviv, primarily teaching English at a language training center, but also taking on additional teaching work at Ukrainian Catholic University, a few IT offices, and a call center. He left Ukraine for China in 2018, where he spent a year in Beijing teaching English at a public elementary school and two years in the city of Anyang teaching at a private middle school, returning to Beijing where he taught at a public middle school before deciding to permanently resettle in the U.S. in March 2022.
