This workshop is part of Englert Wavelength: the Englert’s arts education series featuring workshops and learning opportunities for youth and adults. Englert Wavelength events are supported by Friends of the Englert.
SESSION INFO
The camp is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Students may sign up for one or the other or both. Those who sign-up for the full day should bring their lunch. Snacks and water will be provided during breaks.
Both sessions will include physical and vocal warm-ups and games, improvisation, and the application of classic acting principles.

Explore character development and monologue writing. Campers will perform an original monologue they’ve written for an original character at the Saturday showcase

AFTERNOON GROUP SCHEDULE
Explore age-appropriate classic and contemporary works. Campers will perform a memorized monologue from one of the works in a simulated audition format at the Saturday showcase

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Sonya Madrigal (she/her) is a proud Latinx actor and teaching artist from Chicago. Sonya is currently in her first year of the MFA acting program at University of Iowa and received her BFA in acting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2019. She most recently did choreography work for Goodman’s production of Zulema, and American Mariachi. Sonya has trained and taught Mexican Folk dancing from a young age, along with other styles of dance. She is proudly a part of the teaching artist community in Chicago and has taught a variety of age groups with: Steppenwolf, Lifeline Theater, Raven Theater, August Wilson Monologue competition, UIC project stage, and Depaul University Creative Root. Recent professional acting credits include Day of Absence (Congo Square Theatre); Oedipus Rex and the premiere of David Auburn’s The Adventures of Augie March (Court Theatre); HOPE part II of a Mexican Trilogy (Teatro Vista).
